A thriving fishing port that provides multiple attractions for a very successful one day school trip.
A day trip to Boulogne-sur-Mer is cost-effective way to introduce students of all ages to history and culture of France. It’s the largest fishing port in France with a big commercial market selling all kinds of seafood and street market on Wednesdays. This ancient town has an impressive medieval castle, the gothic church of St Nicholas and the Cathedral basilica of Notre-Dame, with one of the largest crypts in France, with Roman, Romanesque and Gothic elements. We provide a Town Trail, our own question and answer excursion for students in groups chaperoned by an adult.
School groups can also visit nearby Nausicaá, the French National Sea Centre. It houses Aquaria, exhibitions on the marine fauna including sharks, seals and penguins, and the exploitation and management of marine resources. Other popular activities include visits to the Bec-a-Suc Sweet Factory and Beussant Chocolate Factory, as well as local bakeries.
Visits to hypermarkets are also popular, including the Auchan hypermarket, north of town, or the Carrefour near Calais.
